Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) has become an important issue for all financial players. Motivations for its development are linked to the protection of asset value (risk management), and the progressive recognition of the value-creating potential of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. The literature has extensively studied and supported the development of SRI, particularly on stock markets. Work on the unlisted asset class (or Private Equity, PE) is more recent and less developed. Yet the sector is growing fast, and plays an important role in financing and supporting innovation and SMEs in France and abroad. The practices of PE management companies are also evolving rapidly under pressure from their stakeholders (investors, regulators, competitors, civil society), and for several years now we've seen the rise of SRI practices, and in particular impact investment and shareholder engagement. My research aims to better understand and support the development of these practices.
