Full-time Professor or Assistant Professor Monge Position In Computer Science, specialty “Quantum information & computing”
Application deadline: March 15, 2023
Starting: September 1st 2023
The Department of Computer Science of Ecole Polytechnique (part of Institut Polytechnique de Paris - IPP) is susceptible to recruit a Professor or an Assistant Professor Monge (*) in quantum information & computing.
We are looking for an excellent candidate in Computer Science, presenting a research project of international level in any area related to quantum information & computing. The recruited person will widen the research scope of our department by contributing to the creation of a multidisciplinary team on quantum sciences and technologies, together with an Inria junior professor and a Professor Assistant from the physics department of Ecole Polytechnique, both already recruited.
On the teaching side, the candidate should contribute to the core computer science curriculum (bachelor's and first years of the Polytechnic engineering cycle) through his/her participation to the existing teaching teams, and propose one or several specialized quantum computing courses, such as quantum algorithms, quantum cryptography or quantum communication. The ability to develop project-based teaching, enabling to strengthen links between teaching and research will be highly appreciated. Speaking/understanding French is a plus, but not a requirement.
Ecole Polytechnique offers an exceptional environment, with an adapted teaching load, administrative and scientific support from the DIX department and the LIX Laboratory. In addition, some specific institutional budgetary support should be provided to this quantum technologies project. The selected candidate will be either hired on an Assistant Professor Monge position or on a Professor position (*) depending on the advancement of her/his career.
Application packages must include the following documents: CV, research and teaching statements, and 3 reference letters. Applications must be submitted on line through the École Polytechnique website by March 15, 2023, and interviews will be planned the first weeks of May.
The candidate is strongly encouraged to contact the department prior to the application, to discuss and refine his/her projects:
- Samuel Mimram (Nous contacter), President of DIX,
- Gilles Schaeffer (Nous contacter), Director of LIX, and
- Marc-Olivier Renou (Nous contacter), head of future team, about research.
(*) Professor (respectively, assistant professor) positions are full time, permanent positions (CDI), open to both new recruits and people willing to move from a civil-servant researcher or faculty position. These positions are similar, in terms of duties, to those of “Professeur” (respectively, Maître de conferences) in French Universities (although “qualification from the CNU” is not required). Candidates should hold a PhD in Computer Science and, for the Professor position, the “Habilitation à diriger des recherches” (or equivalent seniority level, for candidates currently abroad) and be able to demonstrate great abilities in teaching and research. “Monge” positions are tenure tracks, in the form of a three-years contract, renewable once, during which defending the Habilitation à diriger des recherches (HDR) is mandatory (a reduced teaching load will be offered for the three first years). After 6 years, the holder will be promoted as Professor, after a positive evaluation of his/her teaching and research activities.
