Recruiting our talents

Recruiting our students on interships

The students of the Ingénieur Polytechnicien Program complete one internship per year all throughout their course, i.e. four internships in total.

These mandatory, assessed internships take place at a company, in the academic research sector, in associations or in the military sphere. The internships conclude with the writing of a detailed report and the presentation of a defense at École Polytechnique. They can be done in France or abroad. On average, students spend approximately a third of the course on internships.

Our students complete internships at various stages of their studies. Below and attached is a description of said internships.

The “Bachelor” internship allows students to observe organizational procedures within a company and develop an operational mission.

Year 2

Master's year 1

The “business” internship allows students to observe organizational procedures within a company and develop an operational mission.

  •  In situ observation and analysis of the reality of organizational and close-proximity management within the company

  •  Development of professional experience and a personal trajectory within a company (industry, retail, public works, banking, insurance, consulting), or a public organization within the framework of an identified operational mission (administration, production, commercial activities, logistics, industrial R&D, human resources)

  •  Interns are required to demonstrate good skills of observation, analysis, adaptability and show that they are able to complete individual assignments

Year 3

Graduate Degree 1

6 months

March to August

Master's year 2

The research internship constitutes an introduction to scientific research methods, centered on the solution of a original problem using a scientific approach.

  •  As the main goal of the internship is to allow students to discover something new and promote the advancement of    knowle dge, so the proposed problem must be original. The internship should therefore not involve redoing previously completed work and should benefit the host structure as well as the student.

  •  Internship proposals must be approved by the laboratories of École Polytechnique’s teaching departments.

Year 4

Graduate Degree 2

4 to 6 months

Starting from February

Master's year 2

The end-of-study project consists of an internship, which ends with the writing of a detailed report and the presentation of a defense at École Polytechnique.

  •  It allows the student to complete a major project with a strong conceptual, scientific or technological focus, complementing their ability to appropriate a problem, as well as the conceptual autonomy they have acquired by the end of the course.

  •  It offers the future graduate a “true-to-life” experience as an engineer or young researcher, preparing them to hit the ground running in the world of work, be it in the organization where they find their first job or otherwise.

Recruiting our alumni
Businesses also have the option to recruit graduates with at least two years of experience. To do so, they should contact the École Polytechnique Alumni Association (AX), which manages in particular the careers office.
