ERC Starting Grants for Fabian Cadiz and Adrien Leblanc

The Physics Department congratulates Fabian Cadiz (Assistant Professor at Ecole Polytechnique, member of the LPMC) and Adrien Leblanc (CNRS Researcher at LOA) for their Starting Grants by the European Research Council !

Fabian Cadiz receives the ERC support for his project "Atomic scale coherent manipulation of the electron spin in semiconductors".
He intends to develop a novel approach based on a unique scanning tunneling microscopy technique which allows for the engineering, excitation and optical detection of single spin resonances in two-dimensional semiconductor materials. Using this tool, Fabian Cadiz hopes to determine not only the role of the environment on spin coherence, but also to engineer it by deterministically moving localization centres over the surface, thus creating tailored ensembles of localized spin states. His project can be expected to open new opportunities in the fields of material science, quantum information  and semiconductor-based quantum technologies.

Adrien Leblanc is supported for his project EXAFIELD in the field of light-matter-interactions.
He projects to work in the so-called “strong field regime”, i.e. when the light intensity is sufficient for quantum electrodynamics effects to be preponderant and observable in the laboratory. Within the EXAFIELD project, Adrien Leblanc plans to reach conditions beyond the perturbative regime in order to improve our understanding of quantum electrodynamics in the strong field regime.
