"Particules, Applications, Rayonnement & Interaction" research team

The PARI team experimentally explores different aspects of laser-plasma interaction at high intensities. The studies aim at improving understanding of particle generation, heating matter mechanisms, ionization/recombination kinetics and kinetic effects on parametric instabilities. Good knowledge of these mechanisms will allow to progress on the Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) research but also to achieve sources for several applications.

Alternative ignition schemes

  • shock ignition: feasibility studies of strong shock launching in large scale-length preplasmas
  • fast ignition: understanding of fast electron generation, transport and energy deposition in solid or compressed plasmas
  • investigation of laser super-penetration in overdense plasmas

Laser-plasma interaction physics in the ps regime

  • understanding parametric instabilities growth and saturation
  • laser plasma interaction in multi-speckle regime
  • investigation of kinetic effects on parametric instabilities

Radiative properties of hot and dense plasmas; X-ray and XUV plasma spectroscopy

  • x-ray and XUV absorption spectroscopy of near-LTE radiatively heated materials
  • x-ray emission spectroscopy of well-characterized non-LTE plasmas

Generation of high energetic particles and applications

  • laser-driven multi-MeV ion sources: novel acceleration schemes and applications
  • radiobiology investigations: effects of ion irradiation of biological samples at ultra-high dose rates

Laboratory astrophysics

  • collisionless plasma interaction, Sedov-Taylor shock dynamics, magnetic field generation and magnetic reconnection

Non-linear plasmas

  • collisionless shock-waves, electromagnetic and ion-acoustic solitons
