Multiscale genome organization in Euyarchaea

Researchers at Institut Pasteur and LOB have developed a protocol for capturing the conformation of chromosomes for bacteria and archaea that allows for a resolution of the order of the gene. Applied to three Euryarchaeota, it shows that, unlike the recently published Crenarchaeota genomes, the chromosomes of these species are not structured into active and inactive compartments, but into chromatin domains and loops.

Euryarchaeal genomes are folded into SMC-dependent loops and domains, but lack transcription-mediated compartmentalization.
