With LULI from EP
Solid state gain media laser systems are reaching physical limits in terms of aperture and extractible energy that can only be exceeded through innovations in the fields of engineering materials and / or that of lasers architectures.
The XCAN project (Ecole Polytechnique & Thales) - launched early 2015 - was set up on an approach being at the crossroads of these fields of investigation : materials and systems: it aims to validate, at the scale of sixty amplifiers (microstructured optical fibers), the principle of the coherent beam combining in the femtosecond regime, with an average power of around 500W. The final demonstrator will be hosted at LULI laboratory of the Ecole Polytechnique. Jean-Christophe Chanteloup, the project manager, belongs to LULI.
