Welcome to our new students!

Here they are! The first intake of École polytechnique’s new Graduate Degree programs arrived on campus on September 5th, 2016.

One-week orientation program to feel at home

Before starting classes on September 14th, the students took part in an Orientation Week. During nine days they attended information sessions on academic and administrative matters, career skills and employability workshops and a presentation by the Student Union on student associations and activities on campus. International students participated in a workshop on how to adjust to France and the French way of life and if needed, meetings in order to complete immigration process.

All students also met with faculty for course selection and academic advisement as well as with key administrative and student services. Finally they had the opportunity to participate in a guided campus tour and settled into their accommodations. "The objective of orientation week is to ease their transition to the school, to reduce enrollment stress, meet their new classmates and professors in a welcoming environment, and to start to feel at home at École Polytechnique." comments Coline Briquet, Director for Academic and Student Services for the Graduate Degree Programs.

70% of international students & 17 different nationalities

"This orientation week has been much appreciated, considering many of us are coming to France for the first time and barely speak any French" says David, a Canadian student from the University of Toronto, enrolled in the Corporate Strategy for New Markets program. Thai-Ha, a Vietnamese student enrolled in the Energy Environment program, coming from Hanoi National University of Education, shares the same opinion: "this week was indeed really helpful, especially for students coming from outside the EU like me. I felt more engaged with our school after this week. And I guess for me personally, I am no longer lost when walking around our campus."

72% of the Graduate Degree students are international, from over 17 nationalities. Among them, 60% come from Europe and 25% from Asia. Women make up 20% of the Graduate student cohort.

Two new programs for 2017

Three Graduate Degree programs have been launched this year: « Energy environment: science technology and management », « Big data for business », and « Corporate strategy for new markets ». These two-year programs are entirely taught in English and are open to students holding a Bachelor’s degree. "So far, the program meets all my expectations. I hope to gain as much knowledge as I can, meet new people and of course find many opportunities to easily start my career right after graduation" says Thai-Ha. David feels also very confident about his decision to choose Ecole Polytechnique: "It is the best university in France, and I knew it would be an honour for me to attend such a prestigious institution. I started learning French two years ago, and I want to master this language. There is no better place to come to learn French than Paris."

Two new programs will open in Fall 2017: « Internet of Things: Innovation and Management Program » and « Metroeconomics ». The Online Application System will open in early December, 2016, with a first-round deadline on January, 15th 2017.
