Conference on Climate Change impact April 2024

The Department of Economics of Ecole Polytechnique is pleased to invite you to a conference on climate change impact that will take place on April 3rd  from 1 to 2 pm in amphi Faurre.

We are looking forward to a discussion between you and our expert, Prof. Céline Guivarch, member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, who will offer an insight and an economic perspective on one of  the most important challenges of our century that  affects everything from geopolitics, through economies, to migration.

Learn first-hand how economists see and tackle climate change and why an economic angle in the debate on global warming is so important.

Climate change – through the lens of an economist

Climate change impacts increasingly threaten the livelihoods, health and wellbeing of current and future generations. And yet, current development patterns are the root cause of climate change. This conference will show how climate change is a major challenge for our national and global economies, and for economy as a discipline.

I will use the IPCC report to which I contributed to explain what we know about climate change economics, and what research on climate mitigation pathways and policies looks like.

Prof. Celine Guivarch is a climate change economist at Ecole des Ponts, CIRED (the International Research Center on Environment and Development). Her research focuses on both the economic impacts from climate change and the assessment of mitigation pathways, with a specific emphasis on the links between climate change and inequality. She was a Lead Author of the Chapter “Mitigation pathways compatible with long-term goals” of the 6th assessment report of the IPCC Working Group III on mitigation. She is a member of the French High council for climate, an independent body assessing government climate policy.
