As of September 2017, École polytechnique offers a highly selective Bachelor program, designed in accordance with that of major international universities and delivered in English. This Bachelor will provide multidisciplinary training of excellence, based on mathematics and a strong economics component for top-level students with very high potential, looking to study in a competitive international environment.
Their first year is dedicated to acquiring the intellectual tools and fundamental knowledge which will be essential for the rest of their higher education, while at the same time discovering and experiencing several disciplines in order to choose the right specialization for them.
In second and third years, students thus get the choice between three double majors:
- Mathematics and Physics
- Mathematics and Computer Science
- Mathematics and Economics
The Maths & Economics track of the Bachelor program offers a scientific approach to economics. It relies on the construction, analysis, and interpretation of abstract models as well as on the confrontation of theoretical conclusions with empirical data coming from the field or from controlled experiments.
The first year offers an introduction to economics to all students.
For those who choose the Maths & Economics track, the second year offers courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, and Finance.
The third year offers more advanced courses on specific topics such as game theory, international trade, industrial organization, public policy, labor economics, poverty and development.
