The Centre de Mathématiques Appliquées (CMAP) at Ecole Polytechnique is opening a two year post-doctoral position on the topic of shape and topology optimization taking into account manufacturing constraints coming from the process of additive manufacturing. The candidates must hold a PhD in applied mathematics or in a related field. The hired post-doctoral researcher will work in the team "Mechanics, Materials and Shape Optimization" at CMAP, under the supervision of Prof. Grégoire Allaire. The mathematical and numerical framework of the project is the level set method for shape and topology optimization of mechanical structures. The goal is (i) to model the following types of manufacturing constraints (overhang, thermal residual stresses, support, material anisotropy), (ii) to take them into account in the optimization process. The required skills are therefore a combination of mathematical, computational and mechanical modeling, optimization and numerical algorithms. The hired post-doctoral researcher will participate to the SOFIA project, a collaborative project between academia and industry funded by BPI (Banque Publique d'Investissement).
Of course, office space, computer access and financial support for travelling and participating to conferences will be provided.
