donnera une conférence intitulée : Stochasticity in bacterial growth

Stochasticity has been increasingly shown to play a crucial role in the regulation of specific genes, with important physiological implications, notably on cell fate decisions. However it remains less clear how molecular level fluctuations impacts the cell at a global scale, in particular growth and metabolism. Using time-lapse microscopy of growing bacteria colonies, and analyzing time traces of gene expression and growth at the single cell level, we could show that fluctuations in the expression of a single limiting catabolic enzyme affect not only growth, but also causes fluctuations in other genes which do not share any regulatory mechanism. We were as well able to quantify the contribution of cell cycle to these fluctuations and characterize surprisingly simple relations between the intensities of intrinsic and extrinsic gene expression noises with growth noise.and cross-linking approaches. Several case studies will serve to illustrate advantages and drawbacks of the different techniques.
