Fees and living budget on campus

No tuition fees are charged to exchange students admitted into the Internship Program for International Students.

Tuition fees for exchange students admitted into the International Academic Exchange program are of 2.500€ per semester. No tuition fees are charged for students admitted in the framework of a partnership between their home university and École Polytechnique.

Financial support

Some fellowships are available from Ecole Polytechnique and are allocated on demand to students with excellent academic background and low resources. Fellowship are given in priority to students into the Internship Program. The mobility grants for Erasmus students are allocated by their National Agencies.

Estimated living costs on Ecole Polytechnique’s Campus

Budgeting expected living costs is an important step of planning your studies abroad. Learning how to manage your money is an important skill to develop as early as possible. For a start you have to appreciate how much money you have/ will have during our period of academic exchange and what expenses to expect for this period.

Once you have identified your expected expenses, you can draw your budget.

800 euros per month is the estimated amount required to cover all major living costs including:


Applications for International Exchange Programs include an offer for a room. All Exchange students can then ask for accommodation on campus in individual dorm rooms (18 square meters, furnished with a bed, a cupboard and a private bathroom). All rooms have access to Internet. The rent is aroung 450 euros/month. A deposit of 300 euros must be paid upon arrival.


All student accommodation buildings include kitchen facilities. On campus, you also have access to a cafeteria and a canteen called « Magnan ».

Health insurance

Subscribing to an health insurance and liability insurance is mandatory for International Exchange Student. They can subscribe to the French health insurance and liability insurance should they don't already have one. EU nationals can provide with their personal European health insurance card. We strongly advise you to subscribe for a complementary health insurance.

Study material

All books and learning materials are given free of charge at École Polytechnique. The costs of complementary study materials (calculator, pens, and paper, photocopying …) vary depending on your personal needs should however be included in your budget.


The campus is located 20 kilometres from Paris and 30 minutes by public transports.

Personal expenses

Your budget should also include costs of clothing, transport, mobile phone, all depending on your personal lifestyle. However there are lots of free or cheap recreational activities and student-run activities on site. All information upon your arrival!
